VN-Index sinks to near 30-month low   2011-08-01 - SGGP

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index retreated the third day to near 400 points on August 1 as investors still hesitated.

The gauge of 296 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange eroded 0.92 percent, or 3.75 points, to close at 401.95 points, the lowest level since May 2009.

Of the index members, 74 rallied, 144 fell, while 83 remained unchanged.

Around 22.31 million shares changed hands at a value of VND436.4 billion on the city bourse.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB), the fourth largest listed lender, was the most active share in volume with 1.52 million shares changing hands.

Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) followed with 883,200 shares traded.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, came in third with 654,220 shares changing hands.

Mekong Fisheries Joint Stock Company (AAM) nosedived 5.06 percent to close at VND22,500.

Ninh Hoa Sugar Joint Stock Company (NHS), Dry Cell and Storage Battery Joint Stock Company (PAC), and Seaprodex Refrigeration Industry Corporation (SRF) all collapsed 5 percent to VND26,600, VND28,500, and VND22,800 respectively.

Binh Duong Mineral & Construction Joint Stock Company (KSB) declined the second day, giving up 4.99 percent to close at VND36,200.

Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) reclaimed 5.26 percent to finish at VND2,000.

Hoi An Tourist Service Joint Stock (HOT) edged up for three consecutive trading sessions, strengthening 5 percent to VND14,700.

Tan Dai Hung Plastic Joint Stock Company (TPC) added up 4.82 percent to close at VND8,700.

The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north plummeted 1.36 percent, or 0.95 points, to finish at 68.6 points. Around 20.9 million shares changed hands at a value of VND203.43 billion.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares stood at 31.73 points. A total of 123,988 shares changed hands at a value of VND781 million as of 1:45 pm local time.
